  • I currently work Caddell Construction & Enka Joint Venture, where I have been employed for almost 12 years
  • I have completed two highly prestigious projects successfully and have now transitioned to a new project in Juba, South Sudan, as the Mechanical Works Manager
  • Currently I interview personnel for the Mechanical Works, Machinery & Equipment, and Mobilization departments
  • I organize visits to nearby African countries (Kenya, Uganda, etc.) to meet and establish connections with material suppliers, technical service providers, subcontractors, machinery equipment vendors, rental equipment providers, and legal representatives of our existing equipment required for the project
  • We are constructing a man camp for around 1000 workers, including management staff. This involves developing landscape areas, dormitories, kitchens, dining halls, water treatment systems, solar panel systems, material warehouses, mechanical workshops, football, basketball, volleyball courts, exterior swimming pools, and entertainment areas such as gyms, game rooms, and multipurpose areas
  • I lead the mechanical mobilization crews for irrigation, mechanical underground systems, clean and waste water treatment systems, boreholes, water tanks, water heaters, solar panel systems, mechanical workshops, and material tent warehouses, as well as plumbing and air conditioning works for all the aforementioned buildings
  • Additionally, I design and perform installations for jobsite mobilization, including tower cranes, boreholes, weighbridges, concrete batch plants, chillers, ice maker units, water treatment systems, river sand washing plants, dining halls, offices, duct fabrication shops, and material warehouses
  • I evaluate project details to determine the necessary new and second-hand machinery and equipment needs based on various criteria, overseeing the purchasing and transfer processes from our other projects
  • I am hiring and training operators, riggers, drivers, repairmen, welders, plumbers, duct fitters, data operators, foremen, engineers and implementing an equipment tracker system
  • Furthermore, I review early design packages and coordination drawings, meeting with project designers and coordination teams to make necessary corrections
  • I am involved in the design of the clean water and waste water treatment systems for the project
  • And oversee the purchasing and logistics processes for valuable project equipment such as underground fuel tanks, fire pumps, chillers, air handling units, and generators, developing placement strategies for these items within the project.

Machinery & Equipment:

  • Conducting project analysis and assessment to determine machinery and equipment requirements based on project specifications and design (all kinds of construction heavy equipment, cranes, forklifts, trucks, passenger vehicles, excavators, loaders, small equipment such as trowel machines, rebar cutting and bending machines etc.)
  • Planning and organizing procurement process, including researching and identifying suitable machinery and equipment suppliers
  • Evaluating and comparing different suppliers to ensure quality, reliability and cost-effectiveness
  • Managing the purchasing process, negotiating prices and finalizing contracts with suppliers
  • Overseeing the delivery and installation of the equipment (Concrete batching plants, chillers, tower cranes, weighbridges, buck hoists etc.), ensuring timely and efficient implementation
  • Creating preventive and corrective maintenance schedules and conducting them as needed to minimize downtime and optimize performance
  • Inspecting warehouse operations, including planning and purchasing equipment spare parts within project budgets
  • Monitoring project progress and adapting machinery and equipment requirements accordingly
  • Arranging third-party inspections and documenting them
  • Identifying opportunities to sell used machinery and equipment after project completion, aiming profitable sales

Lifting & Rigging:

  • Developing comprehensive lift plans, considering factors like load weight, center of gravity, rigging techniques, crane capacity etc
  • Conducting site surveys and assessing potential hazards or obstacles that may affect lifting operations
  • Training crane operators and riggers, providing supervision and guidance during lifting operations, ensuring adherence to proper rigging procedures and techniques
  • Conducting regular inspections of lifting equipment and ensuring they are in good working condition

Mobilization Works:

  • Conducting comprehensive investigations and assessments of subcontractors for site mobilization works, including researching their background, capabilities and reliability
  • Performing thorough evaluations of countries, analyzing factors such as construction materials availability and prices, housing and human resourcing options etc
  • Engaging with local authorities to initiate the process of obtaining necessary permits and approvals for gas, water, electricity connections

Mechanical Works:

  • Responsible for mechanical underground works, irrigation, plumbing, piping, hvac systems, fire sprinkler systems, fuel, natural gas, domestic and hydronic water systems, water treatment systems, all mechanic equipment, building automatization systems etc.
  • Hiring, training and supervising junior Plumbing & HVAC Engineers and Technicians.
  • Reviewing mechanical plans and executing them on-site, adhering to project specifications
  • Collaborating with designers to request modifications to plans or specifications, as needed
  • Conducting thorough inspections carrying out tests to ensure quality control
  • Scheduling equipment manufacturer representatives and perform start ups for the mechanical equipment and mechanical systems
  • Filling monthly Mechanical Works progress reports, submitting them to the client (OBO - Overseas Building Operations)
  • Joining weekly meetings with the client, answering their questions related to QC, Progress and biweekly look ahead reports.
  • Setting up the mechanical equipment (Pumps, Chillers, Air handling units, Fans, VAVs, Water Heaters, Boilers, Tanks etc.) making their connections and perform regular preventive and corrective maintenances.
  • Test each system after service/repair is complete to ensure the system is functioning properly.
  • Installing and protecting plumbing fixtures till the turn over.
  • Arrange and participate in the trainings for the client about the mechanical systems and equipment.
